METALS AND ENVIRONMENT

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE GROUP

The metals and environment group is one of recent creation (May 2017). Its research activity is related to the prevention, evaluation, control and minimization of the environmental impact of toxic metals from industrial activities.

It should be noted that despite its short history, this group arises around the experience and research activity of its current head. She has worked on these research topics at INCAR and prestigious research and universities for more than 20 years.

In recent years, its research has been focused on the development and improvement of solids that allow the elimination of several pollutants simultaneously (multi-pollutant). At the same time, the quality of the byproducts generated with a view to their possible valorization is assessed to achieve an efficient use of resources and a correct management of by-products (circular economy).

For several years, the group has been collaborating with international groups in the evaluation of advanced materials for their application in water decontamination, as well as in matters related to soil remediation.

Its research is mainly financed by National R&D Program projects, contracts with regional industries and international collaborations.
