Materials for energy, environment and catalysis

DR. SAMANTHA L. FLORES LÓPEZ

Samantha Flores has a degree in Biochemical Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Colima (2014), a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Technological Institute of Mexico (Aguascalientes, 2017) and a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Oviedo (2023). Her early research work was focused on adsorption processes, working on air purification and wastewater treatment. Between 2017-2018, she worked in the technical department of Carbotecnia (from Guadalajara, Mexico), dedicated to the manufacture of activated carbon and the commercialization of water treatment products. During this period, she had the opportunity to gain experience in the design and installation of water treatment plants, as well as in projects for the food industry. Her doctoral research at Institute of Carbon Science and Technology (INCAR-CSIC) was focused on the development of sol-gel materials (from silica, carbon and hybrids), their characterization and application in the fields of separation processes, thermal insulation, energy storage and catalysis. Her M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies have been granted by CONAHCYT (Mexico) and the Principality of Asturias (Spain, Severo Ochoa Program) respectively. During her career she has collaborated with research groups at the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica-IPICyT (Mexico), Jean Lamour Institute (France), Institute of Physiology CAS (Czech Republic) and University of San Luis (Argentina). Her current lines of research include carbon-based materials applied to adsorption and the development of electrodes for energy storage devices, mainly batteries (Li-ion, Na-ion, Al-ion).
