FUNCTIONAL POROUS MATERIALS
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE GROUP
The research lines of GMPF are focused on the development of novel synthesis strategies towards functional porous materials of two types: i) porous carbon materials (micro/meso/macro) and ii) structured inorganic oxides. The general aim of the work we are carrying out is to develop synthesis procedures that allow the production of materials with reproducible characteristics, which are in addition tunable through the synthesis conditions. Besides the development of the materials, the Group studies their utilization in different areas of interest within the Energy and Environmental fields: catalysis and photocatalysis in the case of the structured inorganic oxides, and in the case of the porous carbons, CO2 capture and energy storage/production (supercapacitors, Li-ion batteries, Li-S batteries, electrocatalysts for fuel cells). An important aspect that we take into account when developing the synthesis processes is their environmental impact, evaluating the use of sustainable precursors and chemical compounds as benign as possible.
