Dr. Patricia Álvarez Rodríguez graduated in Chemistry from the University of Oviedo in 1997, obtaining a PhD in Chemistry from the same University in 2001. In 2002, she joined the INCAR Materials Chemistry Group, focusing her activity on the preparation and characterization of carbon materials from carbon and petrochemical derivatives. Starting in 2006, she joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, where she carried out extensive research on the characterization and transformations of various petrochemical and carbo-chemical fractions, including their rheological studies. Since 2009, she has been carrying out her research activity at INCAR, first as a Ramón y Cajal researcher and later as Senior Scientist. Her interests of research focused on the preparation of carbon materials (fibers, activated carbons, etc.) and nanocarbons (mainly graphene) with controlled structural properties from various precursors and through specific processes. Another of the scientific objectives of this stage has been the study of the behaviour of these materials in catalytic, environmental and energy applications. During this period, she conducted several stays in international research institutions such as the University of PennState, USA. She has published more than 80 research articles and 4 patents in her field of research. She has participated/led more than 16 national and European research projects and has participated in more than 90 international scientific congresses. He has directed 7 doctoral theses, one in progress, as well as 4 undergraduate theses. He actively participates in the direction of final master's projects at the University of Oviedo, as well as in the tutelage of students, both in the last year of said university and in other CSIC programs (JAE Intro) or other organizations (Universidad de Colombia, contracts youth guarantee, etc.). She is currently the head of the Materials Chemistry department at INCAR.
