DR. ZORAIDA GONZÁLEZ ARIAS

Zoraida Gonzalez has a wide experience in the field of electrochemistry. During her PhD (2000-2006) she specialized in electroanalysis. The knowledge acquired on the physico-chemical theory and application of different electrochemical techniques was later applied during her time as post-doctoral researcher in Methrom Dropsens S.L. (2008-2010).

Since 2010 she pursues her research career in the Composites Group firstly as post-doctoral researcher and as Higher Specialized Technician from 2020. At this stage, she has reached a remarkable synergy between the synthesis/characterization of various carbon (nano)materials and their subsequent application both in electrochemical systems (energy storage devices, electrocatalysis, desalination) and in other fields (biomedical devices, composite materials). She is focused on the development of suitable carbon materials to be used as active electrodes in electrochemical energy storage devices as supercapacitors and redox flow batteries (RFBs). She has been involved, as hired manager and researcher, in the preparation, launch and follow-up of the interdisciplinary thematic platform PTI FLOWBAT, which main goal has been the fabrication of a 1 KW all-vanadium based RFB. Furthermore, currently she is also participating as a researcher in the PTI+ TRANSENER, working in the development of a 50 KW-VRFB. The wide work carried out has been intimately linked to her participation in several projects (20) and research contracts (5) (at national and European level), also collaborating with foreign research institutions and national companies. Aiming to start a new line of research, since 2017 she is actively working on the development of graphene-based electrochemical sensors for sensing substances of biological interest and water pollutants in collaboration with foreign and Spanish institutions. She actively participates in scientific communication activities, having published 45 papers in high impact factor journals and presented more than 70 oral/poster communications in national/international conferences. Moreover, she also contributes to the dissemination team at INCAR, carrying out a great variety of scientific and public dissemination tasks to communicate the main outcomes of her research to different stakeholders

She has graduated 1 PhD student, and supervised 4 Master´s thesis. She is currently supervising 3 PhD students, collaborating with research institutions from Poland and UK.
