FUNCTIONAL POROUS MATERIALS

RESEARCH LINES

The research lines of the Functional Porous Materials Group can be divided in two main groups based on the type of developed material:

  1) Porous carbon materials. Within this subgroup, the tackled research lines are:

      A) Fabrication of high surface area carbonaceous materials with controlled porosity for their use as electrodes in supercapacitors and in ion-Li/Li-S batteries, and for CO2

      B) Development of carbon materials through hydrothermal carbonization of diverse natural materials (saccharides, algae, biomass, etc)

      C) Production of carbon materials doped with specific functionalities (nitrogen, sulfur, nanoparticles of inorganic compounds) for their use in supercapacitors, ion-Li/Li-S batteries and as electrocatalysts in fuel cells

      D) Synthesis of carbon nanostructures with controlled morphology and porosity.

      E) Preparation of graphitic carbon materials with high porosity.

  2) Structured inorganic oxides. The fundamental lines within this subgroup are:

      F) Synthesis of inorganic nanostructures (nanorods, nanosheets) supported over conductive substrates and their utilization as electrodes in supercapacitors.

      G) Development of catalysts supported on metallic meshes for catalytic applications involving hydrogen production

      H) Development of supported catalysts with photocatalytic activity in effluent remediation processes.
