CO2 CAPTURE

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE GROUP

The CO2 Capture group develops R&D work in CO2 capture processes that use CaO as a regenerable sorbent ("calcium looping" processes, CaL). We also investigate other reversible high temperature reactions applicable to energy storage processes, hydrogen production (sorption enhanced reforming or water gas shift by CaO carbonation), and acid gas removal processes. Research in the CO2 Capture Group spans experimental scales from laboratory to large pilot plants (TRL7), and includes modeling of gas-solid reactions, reactors and processes.

The group is one of the world's pioneers in the development of processes and reactors using CaO as a high temperature CO2 sorbent, and today has more than 150 publications in the field, including some of the most cited in the area of CO2 capture. The group also holds several patents and supports various private contracts between CSIC and industry. It has participated in several H2020 projects (CEMCAP, Cleanker, C4U) and coordinated two RFCS (Flexical, BackCap) in the field.
